Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team falls to Simpson at home

The Iowa Wesleyan women’s soccer team had a tough time stopping the Simpson College offense on Monday evening. The Storm generated a flurry of rushes towards the net and took down the Tigers 8-0 at East Lake Park in Mt. Pleasant.

Simpson got on board in the fifth minute when Cami Schmalz gave the Storm a 1-0 lead. Three different Simpson players scored later in the period and Simpson led 4-0 at halftime.

IW kept the game at a four-goal deficit for the next 36 minutes of game time but the Storm eventually stretched the lead to 6-0 with two goals within two minutes in the second half.

Simpson tacked on two more goals later in the half and ended the score at 8-0.

The Tigers finished the game with just two total shots and one shot on goal. Grace Alongi had both shots in the loss.

Destiny Colon and Jaiden Rogers split times in net, both giving up four goals. Colon finished with 10 saves and Rogers had seven.

The Tigers had their first road game on Saturday at Webster University. The Tigers fell 11-1, with Alongi scoring the only goal of the game for IW.

Alongi had two shots to lead the Tigers on Saturday. Colon made 22 saves on 34 shots on goal.

The IW women fell to 2-6 overall and 0-1 in conference play with the loss. The Tigers will host Spalding University on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 3 p.m.
