It has been my pleasure to serve you

By Bryce Kelly, Mt. Pleasant News | Jun 09, 2017

It is with both sadness and an excitement for the future that I must announce today is my last day at the Mt. Pleasant News.

For almost three years now, I have been employed at the Mt. Pleasant News. Working as a reporter for this newspaper was my first full-time job after graduating from college, and I can tell you with the utmost sincerity that this has been a great place to get my feet wet in the professional world.

When I first came to Mt. Pleasant, I didn’t know many locals outside of a few relatives that lived or worked in the area. Since I started back in 2015, however, I can honestly say that my list of acquaintances has grown enormously. Even better yet, the people I now have the pleasure of calling my friends since that time is truly heartwarming.

When my family and friends from out-of-town ask me how I like living and working in Mt. Pleasant, I always tell them the same thing. Mt. Pleasant, and Henry County as a whole, is truly a special place. The people that make up the Henry County community are some of the best I have ever had the privilege to live and work with. I have found that this community is very accepting and welcoming to everyone – no matter where you come from or who you are. That is a rare quality in today’s world, and I hope that we all strive to never lose that trait.

You should all know that this job has pushed me to be a better worker and a better human being. When I started at this newspaper, I was fresh out of college and had no prior journalism experience outside of my university’s campus newspaper. It would have been understandable for this community to have little confidence in my abilities, especially given my age. However, from Day 1, this community took a chance on me, trusted me, and gave me a tremendous amount of grace. For that, I can never say thank you enough.

While I am saying goodbye to the Mt. Pleasant News, I am not saying goodbye to the Mt. Pleasant and Henry County community. I still plan on living in Mt. Pleasant as I move into my next job position right here in town. Knowing that I will be taking the next step in my professional career in Mt. Pleasant gives me a lot of hope and confidence for the future, as I know that this community will take care of me as it has always done.

As I bow out as the Mt. Pleasant News community reporter, I ask that you continue to support the Mt. Pleasant News as you have all done so consistently for so many years. The staff at the Mt. Pleasant News is full of great people who are still very much dedicated to bringing important news to you.

Please feel free to keep in touch with me at or at 319-316-2705. Again, thank you all so much for everything you have done for me and for the Mt. Pleasant News.
