IW announces Fall 2017 dean’s list

Iowa Wesleyan University announced the release of the 2017 Fall Semester dean’s list, highlighting students exemplifying academic excellence in Henry County.

Criteria to be a part of the dean’s list includes degree-seeking students taking 12 or more hours per semester with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

“Twenty-eight percent of Iowa Wesleyan students achieved academic excellence this semester,” said Registrar Megan Hills. “This is an increase of 16 percent over the 2016 fall semester. Students are represented from all over the globe on this distinguished list, which says a lot about our personalized service to student success at the University.”

Dean’s List students may graduate “with honor” indicated by “cum laude” on their diploma with an overall career cumulative grade-point average of 3.50—3.74. Graduates receive “magna cum laude for overall cumulative of 3.75—3.89. “Summa cum laude” represents those students who overall cumulative GPA is 3.90—4.00 for all coursework.

“This year represents one of the strongest improvements in freshmen students over previous years academically,” said DeWayne Frazier, Vice President for Academic Affairs and Dean. “The institution has offered more general education 100 level courses coupled with more full time faculty teaching them, and we believe this has served the freshmen well in their transition to collegiate work.”
