Kirksville, Mo. — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s basketball team closed out 2017 with a road exhibition in Kirksville, Mo. on Saturday, Dec. 30. The Tigers took on Truman State University. A rough day defensively led to a 107-52 loss.

The Tigers got out to a decent start. Austin Rebel opened the game with a three-pointer, and a couple of threes from Brock Butler helped IW keep pace with Truman State in the first four minutes. With 16 minutes left in the first half, the scorer was 11-11.

Truman State stepped up, however, and went on a 28-8 run in the middle of the first half. That was enough to all but put the Tigers away early, and IW trailed 50-25 at the half.

The second half was a three-point barage by Truman State. The Bulldogs went 10-19 from three-point land and collected a 15-2 advantage in assists to run away with the victory.

Butler finished the game with 17 points on 6-20 shooting and 3-11 from down town to lead the team. Jake Neubauer scored 12 points. Rebel finished with seven.

Jarryd Fernandes finished the day with five points, as well as a team-leading nine rebounds and two assists. Camron Mack had four points in the loss, and Lachlan Cassidy finished with two.

The IW men will go into 2018 with a 1-10 overall record and a 1-3 SLIAC record. They’ll open up a big conference stretch on Wednesday, Jan. 3, at Webster University. The Tiger men will play at 8 p.m., right after the womens’ game.
