IW men’s golf team takes second at SLIAC tournament

STAUNTON, Ill. — The Iowa Wesleyan men’s golf team wrapped up a second-place finish at the SLIAC men’s golf championship on Tuesday. Over two days at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton, Ill., IW finished second place overall with a score of 916. That score finished 17 strokes behind conference champion Webster (216) but ahead of five other teams.

Kiley Miller had the best tournament of the group. He shot a 75 in his firstround, a 76 in his second round and a 69 in his third round to score a 220, which was good enough for second place overall. Webster’s Will Hocker to win the tournament.

Blake Forsythe finished sixth place overall, shooting an 82, a 77 and a 71 to finish the tournament at 230. Brock Butler shot a 235 (70, 80, 79) to tie for ninth-place overall at 245.

Fergus Smith shot 77, 80 and 79 to tie for 13th at 236. Jeff Cox shot a 77, an 86 and a 79 to shoot a 242, closing out the tournament in a tie for 16th place.

This was the Tigers’ first completed tournament of the spring. They did get one day in at the Viking Invitational in Sherrand, Ill., on April 13, coming in 11th out of 19. The second day of that tournament was cancelled due to weather, as was the entire IW Tiger Classic in early April.

The Tigers will be at Monmouth College for their final tournament of the year on Friday, April 27 and Saturday, April 28.
