James "Jim" William Dennison

OTTUMWA — James “Jim” William Dennison, 80, of 16367 Bluegrass Rd. died at 5:15 p.m. March 16, 2013 at Hospice House.

He was born July 12, 1932 in Keokuk, Iowa to James Franklin and Jessie Gladys Dennison Rosencrans. He married Shirley Lee Pierce on December 24, 1951 in Keokuk, Iowa.

Jim worked at General Mills in Keokuk. He came to Ottumwa in 1957 following his discharge from the U.S. Army. He went to Barber School, owning his own shop for several years in Ottumwa. He worked at Ottumwa Heights Convent from September, 1975 until December, 1978 when he became an EMT-A working for the Wapello Co. Ambulance Service. He went to work for the City of Ottumwa at the Sewage Treatment Plant in July 1981 and in 1984 became a City of Ottumwa Rental Housing Inspector until his retirement in 1996.

Surviving is his wife of 61 years; two daughters, Vicki (Mark) Johnston of Mt. Pleasant and Jody (Terry) Rupe of Ottumwa; a son, Rusty (Susan Parker) Dennison of Scottsdale, AZ; five grandchildren, Misti Johnston, Jason Johnston, Emily Gould, Kayla Johnston and Adam Johnston; nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Rose Ann (Harold) LeMaster and Patty Elder both of St. Francisville, MO.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Reed, step-father, Russell Reed, his father, Frank Dennison, step-mother, Lila Dennison; a sister, Dorothy Buley and a grandson, Bryan Rupe.

His body has been cremated. Private services will be held with his niece & her husband, Kendra & Brandon York officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, 927 E. Pennsylvania Ave., Ottumwa, IA 52501
