Just Peace Outreach group to host peacemaker seminar

J-POG, Just Peace Outreach Group is welcoming Sandra Stevens this coming Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at East Union Mennonite Church.

Stevens has been active with Christian Peacemaker Teams (CPT) and is familiar with the current conflicts in Iraq, Syria, Turkey, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party), and YPG (People's Protection Units).

Stevens alternated her semesters at Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary with stints in Iraq and Colombia with CPT. She holds a Master’s degree in peace studies from AMBS, and an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Iowa.

She was in Iraq during ISIS’s overthrow of Mosul and during their advancement toward Erbil and Bagdad.

Stevens’ talk is entitled “Iraqi-Kurdistan.” She has deep experiences as a human rights advocate in the area.

J-POG will meet at East Union Mennonite Church, located at 5615 East Gable Ave SW, in Kalona. Those wishing to attend should arrive at 6 p.m., for informal discussion and a finger foods potluck. To partake in the potluck, bring your own table service. Steven’s presentation will begin at 7 p.m.

An offering will be taken for CPT.
