Käte I. Andresen, 97, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away on Sunday, November 5, 2017 at her home in Mt. Pleasant.


According to her wishes, her body has been donated to the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology Program at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. There will be no services. Memorials may be directed to the family to be used for a gift in her memory to HCI Hospice Care Services of Mt. Pleasant.


Käte was born on November 13, 1919, in Bremerhaven, Germany to Johann Heinrich and Naemi Nielsen Ketelsen. She was united in marriage to Bernhard Andresen on May 13, 1939, they were married for 70 years before he preceded her in death on January 26, 2010. Having lost her mother at an early age, she became a caregiver of her younger siblings, a nephew and an uncle, aiding her father in their care. She emigrated from Germany with her family in 1951, settling on farms in Illinois and in Iowa, the Merrimac and Pleasant Point areas, for 15 years until 1966. They purchased Ruby Cleaners in Mt. Pleasant, where she was known as a professional seamstress, until her retirement. She enjoyed family gatherings, playing cards, dancing, visits from German relatives, traveling, gardening and was a flower enthusiast.


She is survived by two daughters: Anita Hill and Ingi (John) McDowell and her sons-in-law Ron Hart and Dennis Ford, all of Mt. Pleasant; her sister, Elisa Henningsen, of Germany; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins, which includes many relatives in Germany.

Käte was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two daughters, Elke Hart and Edie Hill; one grandson, Randy Hart; sons-in-law, Leo Hill and Dennis I. Hill; six brothers: Walter, Erwin, Werner, Heinz, Georg and Bruno; and one sister, Mariechen.
