Kathryn "Kas" E. Coberley

Kathryn "Kas" E. Coberley, 95, New London, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at Henry County Health Center.


Services for Mrs. Coberley will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 2, at Elliott Chapel with Pastor Kathleen Moore officiating. Visitation will begin at noon Sunday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Trinity Cemetery, Mt. Union. Memorials have been established for New London United Methodist Church, Fun and Fellowship and Burlington Municipal Band.


She was born February 9, 1922 in Yarmouth, to George Henry and Laura Isabelle Fisk Beck. April 26, 1941, Kas married Aven Coberley in Yarmouth. He died September 27, 2002.


She graduated from Yarmouth High School and Burlington Beauty Academy. In 2007, she retired after more than 60 years as owner operator of Coberley's Countryside Salon.


She was a member of New London United Methodist Church, Fun and Fellowship and sang in the choir; member of PEO Chapter EV and 10 Club. She enjoyed traveling, road trips, camping at Golden Valley with grandchildren, coin finding with Aven, cooking, singing, music and humming along to the radio.


Besides her parents and husband, Kas was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Stanley Beck and sisters, Elvira Helphrey and Anita Gooch.


Survivors include son, Ron (Claudia) Coberley, New London; daughter, Barbara Byrd, New London; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
