Lady Wolves bounce back on Tuesday

MEDIAPOLIS — The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team bounced right back on Tuesday after getting shut out in their season opener on Monday. The Wolves trounced Mediapolis 9-0 on the road to move to 1-1 to start the season.

W-MU scored one run in each of the first two innings and added four more un the third to take a 6-0 lead. The Wolves tacked on two insurance runs in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Dakota Haines was 4-4 with a triple and an RBI. Molly Miller was 2-4 with an double and an RBI. Kyndal Townsley knocked in two runners. Madie Anderson and Carlee Sloan each knocked in one.

Anderson was dominant in the victory, striking out sixteen Bullette batters and giving up just one hit.

W-MU and L&M were scoreless through four innings in Monday night’s season opener, but eight runs in the last three innings helped L&M run away with an 8-0 victory.

The Falcons scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 5-0 lead, and added three insurance runs in the seventh.

The Wolves struggled to hit the ball, collecting just two hits in the loss. Townsley was 1-3 and Maci Richardson finished 1-3 as well.

Anderson pitched all seven innings. She gave up eight runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks. She struck out 11 batters in the ballgame.

The Wolves will be back at home on Thursday, May 24, when they take on Pekin at 7 p.m.
