WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union girls more than doubled up Iowa Mennonite in the first half of Tuesday night’s SEISC North Division match up. A dominant first two quarters led to a 52-39 victory.

W-MU came out of the gates on fire. The Lady Wolves outscored IMS 15-5 in the first quarter and held their double-digit lead throughout the night. The Wolves won the third quarter 12-8 and held a controlling 27-13 lead at the break.

IMS did creep back in the third quarter. They held the Wolves to single digits in the third quarter, the only time the Wolves would be below the 10-point mark all night. After three quarters, it was 36-26.

W-MU’s offense had their best performance in the fourth quarter. They scored 16 points and pulled away with the conference victory.

Lexee Hartsock had a big night, scoring 19 points in the win. Allie McArtor scored 11 points and pulled down a team-leading 18 rebounds for a double-double.

Jami Wilkerson had nine points, seven rebounds and four steals in the win. Karley Schlee added nine points of her own and led the Wolves with five assists. Lauren Jamison and Liana Sweezer scored two points apiece.

The W-MU boys couldn’t keep pace with a tough IMS squad. B.J. Rodgers scored nine points and Cody McCreight had six, but it wasn’t nearly enough in a 67-22 loss.

W-MU will be on the road on Friday, Jan. 26 at Louisa-Muscatine.
