Larry R. Barquist, 76, of Bettendorf, died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013 at Genesis Medical Center East Campus, Davenport.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport. Burial will follow the service. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Church. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to Camp Shalom. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Larry was born July 7, 1937 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, a son of Lawrence and Lucille Carper Barquist. He married Linda K. Benson on June 26, 1966 in Swedesburg, Iowa.

Larry graduated from Iowa State University, Ames. He worked 46 years at John Deere Harvester Works, East Moline. Larry was trained as an engineer, helped design and test combines, and later served as service manager at the Harvester Works.

He was a U.S. Army Vietnam era veteran serving as a company commander while stationed in Germany. Larry was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport and had been a long-time volunteer and supporter of Camp Shalom in Maquoketa, Iowa. He enjoyed working outdoors and had a deep love for his family and a special fondness for his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Linda; daughter-and son-in-law, Becky and Doug Schweizer, Bettendorf; son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Stephanie Barquist, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Jenna and Nick Schweizer, and Will Barquist; stepmother, Maleta Barquist, Wayland, Iowa; sister and brother-in-law, Rachelle and Jim Brecht, Lisbon, Iowa; brother, Dan Barquist, Soddy Daisy, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joyce Henderson.
