WINFIELD — The Winfield-Mt. Union softball team staged a late comeback bid against Wapello in their SEISC North Division showdown on Monday night, but the Arrows held on and knocked off the Wolves 6-4.

W-MU struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. Wapello scored the next six runs of the game, however, netting two in the second and three in the third and adding one in the top of the seventh to take a 6-1 advantage.

W-MU didn’t go down without a fight. The Wolves rallied for three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Wapello starter Eliza Noa escaped the inning, however, before the Wolves could tie it up.

Kyndal Townsley had a big game in the leadoff spot, going 3-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Maci Richardson was 2-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Molly Miller went 2-4 with a double and an RBI, and Liana Sweezer was 0-3 with a run scored.

Madie Anderson threw all seven innings in the circle. She gave up six runs (three earned) on eight hits and five walks, while striking out 12 batters.

The Wolves will be back in action on Thursday, June 21.
