Lewis F. Kennedy, 95, of Farmington, died on Thursday, Dec. 22, 2016, at his home.

His body has been entrusted to Schmitz Funeral Home for cremation. Burial will be at a later date.

A memorial has been established in his memory for Lee County Hospice and may be mailed to the family at: Schmitz Funeral Home, P.O. Box 56, Donnellson, Iowa 52625. Online condolences may be sent to the family at The Schmitz Funeral Home, in Donnellson, is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Kennedy was born on March 24, 1921, in rural Farmington, the son of William S. and Emily (Kennedy) Kennedy. He was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On July 13, 1947, he married Mildred G. Hedden at Christian Church, in Keokuk.

He was a retired farmer.

He was a former member of Big Mound Methodist Church.

He enjoyed riding horses, working on his farm, racoon hunting, and spending time with his family and his grandchildren.

Kennedy is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Farmington; three sons, William J. Kennedy, of Farmington; Robert J. (Cindy) Kennedy, of Farmington; and Douglas (Mellisa) Kennedy, of Lake City, Calif.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; and one brother.
