Lions charter new Mt. Pleasant club

Lionism has returned to Mt. Pleasant.

Past International Director (PID) of Lions Clubs Delmar (Del) Brown of Iowa City keynoted the charter banquet May 4 of the newly formed Mt. Pleasant Lions Club at Mt. Pleasant Christian School.

Approximately 50 officials and representatives of area Lions Clubs attended the event. The evening also featured addresses by District Governor DeEtta Rasmussen of Ft. Madison and Guiding Lion Gina Turner of the New London Lions Club.

Mt. Pleasant Mayor Steve Brimhall welcomed the Lions to Mt. Pleasant and Brooks Taylor of the Mt. Pleasant Lions Club served as master of ceremonies.

A special guest was Jim DePriest Sr., Mt. Pleasant, who was a member of the former club and is one of a select few active Lions in the state who is over 90 years of age.

Mt. Pleasant formerly had a Lions Club. The club was chartered in 1972 and disbanded on July 1, 2010.

The new club chartered with 23 members.

Officers include Taylor, president; Trisha Phelps, vice president; Dr. Lori Meyer, secretary; Dana Zimmerman, treasurer; and Tracy Hudson, membership chairperson.

The Lions’ motto is “We Serve.” All funds from community service projects remains in the community.
