Local eye care is expanding thanks to one local eye physician’s partnership with an Iowa City-based eye care specialist clinic.

Eye Physicians and Surgeons, LLP, has officially arrived in Mt. Pleasant and is bringing with them specialty eye care services. Making their home at 301 West Monroe St., at the office of Dr. Christopher Olson, O.D., Eye Physicians and Surgeons will be expanding on the services Dr. Olson already offers.

“This partnership is something I am very excited about,” said Dr. Olson, adding he is excited to bring these specialty services to his already established local practice. “Being able to provide some of these services has been something I have wanted to do for quite awhile, so to finally have a way to make it happen is great. I think having more services available locally is really going to be a great thing for area patients.”

With the recent partnership, Dr. Olson will continue to make himself available five days a week to meet the comprehensive eye care needs of local patients. Additionally, the eye care practice will have the medical tools, additional medical staff and equipment needed to perform minor surgical procedures, as well as laser procedures such as YAG capsulotomy, lasers for glaucoma, laser treatment for diabetes, among other treatments. Fellowship-trained medical retina specialist, Luke Wendel, M.D., is also available to give intravitreal injections for diseases such as wet macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

Also among the physicians bringing the expertise to the Mt. Pleasant practice is board certified ophthalmologist, Dr. Chris Watts, M.D. Dr. Watts has interests in general ophthalmology, cataract surgery, macular degeneration care and diabetes glaucoma care, among other things.

“Eye surgery and eye care treatment in general is relatively painless, and when it helps someone see better, it can be truly life changing for them,” said Dr. Watts, saying he is looking forward to adding to Dr. Olson’s already thriving practice. “This is a very rewarding field for myself and the rest of our staff, and we are really excited to bring that love we have to patients in Mt. Pleasant and the local area.”

Both Dr. Wendel and Dr. Watts completed their residencies at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Department of Ophthalmology. Dr. Wendel also completed his Fellowship in Medical Retina and Molecular Ophthalmology at the University of Iowa.
