M. Joan Wolfe, 90, Middletown, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, in the emergency room at Great River Medical Center.

A private family graveside service will be held in Jaggar Cemetery, rural Danville. The Rev. Aimee Goldmeyer will officiate. A memorial has been established to the Danville Rescue Unit. Condolences may be sent to the family at: Darrell Wolfe, 405 Center Street, Middletown, Iowa 52638. Elliott Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

She was born May 14, 1923, in Stockport, and was the daughter of John and Hazel Fickel Schulz. On April 21, 1941, she married Darrell J. Wolfe, Jr. She was a 1940 graduate of Stockport High School.

She was a homemaker but had worked outside the home at times. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and helping others. She had worked as a hospital volunteer for Great River Medical Center making hats and booties for newborns, prayer shawls and lap quilts. She also made quilts for the Ronald McDonald House. She loved to play bingo, watch Iowa basketball and tend her flowers.

She is survived by her husband; two sons, Tom (Diana) Wolfe of Burlington and Richard Wolfe of Punta Gorda, Fla.; two daughters, Penney (Ronald) Wheeler and Cathy Kerr of Middletown; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Melba Morrow of Milton, Shirley Criswell of El Paso, Texas, and Karen Eishmey of Toledo, Ohio.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Terry; four sisters; two brothers; one grandson and two granddaughters.
