Marcia E. Steele, 90, Wayland, died Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2014, at the McCreedy Home in Washington following a lingering illness.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 3, at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Jason Collier officiating. Burial will follow at the Crawfordsville Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, Feb. 2, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Beatty Funeral Home in Washington. A memorial fund has been established for Hospice of Washington County, Wayland Fire and Rescue and the United Church of Crawfordsville.

She was born June 6, 1923, in rural Louisa County, and was the daughter of Clement and Hazel (McBride) Allen. She graduated from Columbus High School and attained her teaching degree from Iowa Wesleyan College. On Feb. 27, 1943, she married Harold Steele in Canton, Mo. She taught at the Carson School in rural Louisa County. She was a member of the Wayland Methodist Church and later the United Church of Crawfordsville. She enjoyed reading, quilting, shopping, antiques and square dancing.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Doug (Carolyn) Steele of Crawfordsville, Brian (Heather Sharp) Steele of Lisbon; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Barbara (Howard) Lunning of Crawfordsville; and one brother, Kenton (Radda) Allen of Bettendorf.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Mitchell Allen and two sisters, Jean Buser and Phyllis Steele.
