Marie E. Todd, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, died on Friday, Nov. 18, 2016, at New London Specialty Care.

Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at Faith Christian Outreach Church, in Mt. Pleasant, with Rev. Monte Knudsen officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, in Morning Sun.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Marie Todd Memorial. Online condolences may be directed to

Todd was born on Nov. 18, 1938, in Toledo, the daughter of Ervin Victor and Emma Marie Hruby Lacina. She was a 1956 graduate of Tama High School. On Sept. 8, 1963, she married Jim Shadle, in Denver, Colo. They later divorced. She then married David Todd, in Cedar Rapids. The couple eventually divorced.

She worked in many different places including King Tower, in Tama, Bishops Buffet and Swiss Colony, both in Cedar Rapids. She owned and operated the Sonrise Café in Morning Sun. Her work career concluded in Tulsa, Okla., at Big Sky Bread and Wild Oats.

She had attended Noelridge Park Christian Church, in Cedar Rapids, First United Methodist Church, in Morning Sun, Victory Christian Center, in Tulsa, and Faith Christian Outreach Church, in Mt. Pleasant.

She enjoyed completing adult coloring books and playing cards.

Todd is survived by a son, David Shadle, of Morning Sun; a daughter, Michelle (Cliff) Baker, of New London; three brothers, Richard (Merle Lee) Lacina, of Toledo; Robert (Kathleen) Lacina, of Prescott, Ariz.; and Harold (Carol) Lacina, of Cedar Rapids; a sister, Sharon Covey, of Monroe; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
