Mary Agnes Kruse Chatham, 91, Houghton, died Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at her home in Houghton.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Friday, April 12, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Houghton, where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. There will be a Daughters of Isabella Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton, with Father Gary Beckman as celebrant. Burial will be at the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Houghton.

Memorials may be made in her memory to St. John’s Catholic Church.

Born Dec. 20, 1921, in West Point, she was the daughter of William and Christina (Pomberg) Steffensmeier. On April 26, 1949, she married Leon Kruse. He preceded her in death. On Feb. 14, 1976, she married Glen Chatham. He preceded her in death.

She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Houghton and the St. Ann’s Circle Daughters of Isabella. She was employed by Pilot Grove Savings Bank for 15 years prior to marrying Kruse. After their marriage, she was a homemaker. After Kruse’s death, she worked at the Houghton Grocery Store for a number of years. She then worked for 18 years for the postal service until she retired. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her five sons, John (Marcia) Kruse of Houghton, Steve Kruse of West Point, Darrell Kruse of Keosauqua, Lee Kruse of Houghton, and Howard (Jane) Kruse of Chicago, Ill.; two daughters Marcia Lichirie of Atlanta, Ga., and Jane (Steve) Krogmeier of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one sister, Luella (Cecil) Menke of Carroll; and one brother, LeRoy (Rosanna) Steffensmeier of Ft. Madison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; two sisters, Rita Sporkman and Jane Menke and one brother, Adrian Steffensmeier.
