CEDAR RAPIDS — Winfield-Mt. Union girls’ basketball coach Mitch Wachs was given quite the honor over the weekend. The 26-year coach was inducted into the Iowa Girls’ Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Wachs has had quite a bit of success in his tenure as Wolves’ head coach. W-MU has gone 358-254 in his coaching career, and Wachs has led them to four state tournament appearances, all of which ended in top-four finishes.

The Wolves won the state tournament in 1995 and 1996. The Wolves made the semifinals in 1997 and advanced to the championship again in 1998 before falling in the title game.

Wachs was officially inducted on Saturday at the Fairbridge Convention Center in Cedar Rapids.

Along with being the girls’ basketball head coach, Wachs is also the W-MU boys’ and girls’ head golf coach.
