A man from Morning Sun has been charged in the death of a body found in Lee County on Sunday, Aug. 5.

Damion Hamann, 28, has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in a death, a Class D felony, after a woman’s body was found on a gravel road in West Point. Hamann turned himself in to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday.

The body was identified as Sadie Alvarado, 20, of Muscatine. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was contacted at approximately 10:42 a.m. Sunday about her body found on a gravel road on 235th Ave. south of West Point.

According to a criminal complaint obtained by The Gazette, Hanann told deputies that he and Alvarado were arguing when she jumped out of his vehicle.

Hamann then, according to the complaint, returned home to Morning Sun. He returned to Lee County later that day to look for her.

An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7, at the University of Iowa’s Decedent Care Unit.

The case is still under investigation.

This is a joint investigation by the Iowa Department of Public Safety’s Division of Criminal Investigation, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Attorney’s Office and Lee County Medical Examiner’s Office.
