MP girls’ golf team flunks Fairfield

Panthers take down Trojans in first home meet, Anni Liechty wins individual medal

The home schedule finally opened up for the Mt. Pleasant girls’ golf team on Tuesday evening. The Panthers hosted Fairfield in a game rescheduled from last week.

The Panthers made the most of their first home action, sweeping medalist honors and burying the Trojans 196-254.

Anni Liechty led the way for Mt. Pleasant. She won the meet by three strokes with a final score of 44.

Keri Herr was right behind her playing partner. She shot a 47 to pick up runner up honors.

Freshman Elli Liechty had the third best score on the team in her first varsity home meet. She shot a 52. Tori Witthoft was right behind her with a 53.

A pair of juniors rounded out the Panther scores. Michael Wohlleber and Melody Miller each shot a 55.

Fairfield was led by Joli Swan with 53. Megan Higgins shot a 55. Ella Phillips shot 69 and Lindy Kaska finished at 77.

The Mt. Pleasant girls will have a five-day rest before their next meet, which will take place on Monday, April 16. The Panthers will host Keokuk and Oskaloosa in a triangular beginning at 4 p.m.
