MP girls third, boys fourth at IMS XC meet

WELLMAN ­— It was a stacked field in Wellman on Monday evening but both Mt. Pleasant teams were able to finish in the top four.

The Panther girls finished third out of 10 scoring teams. The boys placed fourth.

Mt. Pleasant was one of three schools to score under 100 points in the girls’ standings. They finished the race with a total score of 97. Class 2A power Mid-Prairie won the meet with 31 points.

Abby Ryon finished fourth in the race, losing only to Marie and Anna Hostetler of Mid-Prairie and Fairfield’s Ashley Bloomquist. Ryon’s final time was 20:09.32.

Taylor Murray was the next Panther to cross the line in the girls’ race. She placed 11th in 21:54.85.

Kendall Dascher placed 27th overall with a final time of 23:20.76. Claire Holtkamp finished 29th in 23:33.59, and Delaney McDowell placed 30th in 23:34.26. Cristina Carthey was 35th, finishing in 23:44.23.

New London runner Lexi Brown placed sixth in 21:17.92, to lead Danville-New London to a fifth-place finish. WACO’s Delaney Miller placed 74th in 32:03.14, and WACO’S Makenzie Shelman was 77th in 34:27.50.

The Panther boys scored 96 points to finish fourth as a team. Mid-Prairie also took the boys’ team title with 45.

Cody Mertens cruised to victory yet again, this time finishing in 16:49.70. He topped second-place Floyd Evans of Mid-Prairie by 26 seconds.

Kyle Vanderham gave the Panthers two top-five finishes with a fifth-place 17:26.81. Dalton Moyle placed 19th in 18:35.92.

Drake Snavely and Cade Warner finished 36th and 37th respectively. Snavely was 36th in 19:34.21, and Warner placed 37th in 19:34.90.

Dakota Triska placed 40th in 19:41.08. Joey Holtkamp laced 54th in 20:47.61.

The WACO boys were led by John Skriver, who placed 55th in 21:10.40. Tanner Conwell placed 69th in 23:08.36. WACO did not have enough runners to score in either the boys’ or girls’ team standings.

The Mt. Pleasant teams will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Panthers will run at North Linn High School in a meet starting at 9 a.m.
