MP trapshooters win meet at Montrose

MONTROSE — The Mt. Pleasant Panther Trap Team attended a three-school shoot at the Tri-State Gun Club in Montrose on Tuesday, where one of the Panther squads took first place in the varsity division.

Schools attending were Burlington High School and host Ft. Madison High School, along with the Panthers.

There were 49 shooters in two divisions (varsity and JV). In the varsity squad events, Mt. Pleasant Squad 1 took first with a score of 212 out of 250. That squad included Trevor Staats, Justin Woods, JD Klopfenstein, Cody Bruggemeyer and Sam Kuckes.

Ft. Madison Squad 1 finished in second place with a score of 203 out of 250.

Third Place went to Mt. Pleasant Squad 2 — Justin Doscher, Nick Ballou, Ashley Hummell, Jayden Phillips and Alec Skubal — with a score of 185 out of 250.

In the individual events, JD Klopfenstein took first on the boys’ side after defeating Ft. Madison’s William Faeth in a shootout. Both finished with a score of 47 out of 50. Third place went to Mt. Pleasant’s Trevor Staats with a score of 44 out of 50.

In the individual events for girls, Mt. Pleasant’s Ashley Hummell once again took first place with a score of 39 out of 50.
