MP v-ball goes 1-3 at home tournament

The Mt. Pleasant volleyball team went 1-3 on Saturday at their annual home tournament. The Panthers picked up a three-set loss to Pekin, got swept by Holy Trinity and Central Lee, and lost to Notre Dame in three sets.

Mt. Pleasant went down early in their win against Pekin. MP fell in 25-21 in the first game and had to battle to win the second game 25-20. Mt. Pleasant took game three 15-8 to pick up their only win.

Holy Triniy, the seventh-ranked team in Class 1A ran away from the Panthers 25-14 and 25-6. Central Lee took down MPCHS 25-21 and 25-14.

Notre Dame topped Mt. Pleasant 25-11 in the first set of their pool play match. The Panthers put together a good second set to win it 25-22, but the Nikes were able to scrap a 15-7 win in the third set.

Holy Trinity dominated the field to go 4-0 in the round robin tournament. Central Lee was second, defeating Pekin and Notre Dame in three sets and falling only to HTC.

Mt. Pleasant, Pekin and Notre Dame were all 1-3 on the day, putting the squads in a three-way tie for third.

The Panthers fell to 10-18 overall this season. Their next game will be tonight (Tuesday) against Keokuk at 7:30 p.m. Mt. Pleasant would finish third in the Southeast Conference with a 4-4 record if they can pick up a win.

Anyone who brings a non-perishable food item to tonight’s volleyball game will get a free popcorn.
