FT. MADISON — The conference season is here for Mt. Pleasant volleyball. The Panthers traveled to Ft. Madison on Tuesday night for their first Southeast Conference showdown, facing a Bloodhound team that is a top-two favorite in the league this year.

The Panthers weren’t able to contain a hungry Bloodhound team, and Mt. Pleasant was swept in straight sets.

The first two sets of the game were rough for Mt. Pleasant. The Panthers fell 25-11 in the first set, and Ft. Madison really found its stride in the second set as the Bloodhounds dominated 25-6 to take a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers played a much more competitive game in the third set. Mt. Pleasant scored more in the third game than they did in the first two combined, but couldn’t quite extend the match, falling 25-21.

Sadie Carrasco was the leading hitter for Mt. Pleasant in the loss, tallying six kills in the game. Lyndi Vantiger led the team in digs, with seven.

Avery Sutter had a nice night at the net for the Panthers. She finished the game with seven blocks, five of which were solo.

Ft. Madison’s Kaeli Hutson had 12 kills to lead the game. Josie Pumphrey led the Bloodhounds with 11 digs.

Mt. Pleasant fell to 1-6 overall with the loss and 1-0 in SEC play.

The Panthers will take on Fairfield at home on Thursday night. They went 0-3 against the Trojans last season. Fairfield swept Keokuk on Tuesday night in the only other SEC contest.
