The annual Swedish St. Lucia celebration was enjoyed at the Swedish Heritage Museum in Swedesburg on Monday, Dec. 11.

The evening dinner was followed by a program led by Jane Wickham, Betty Molander and Janice Peterson.

After dinner, the lights were dimmed and Lucia entered wearing the traditional white robe, red sash and a crown of lighted candles. She distributed cookies to all who were present while the Swedish song Sankta Lucia played in the background.

Lucia was portrayed by Hallie Sandeen, who is a junior in Mt. Pleasant Community High School. Sandeen is the daughter of Ralph and Cherry Sandeen and the great-great granddaughter of Charles and Josephine Sandeen who came to the Swedesburg area from Sweden in the late 1800s. Other family that joined the celebration included Sandeen’s grandparents and aunt.
