Mt. Pleasant baseball season begins

DAVENPORT — Baseball season is officially underway for the Mt. Pleasant boys.

The Panthers took on Davenport Assumption in a road doubleheader on Tuesday night. Assumption took both games, 4-0.

The Knights’ pitching staff kept the Panthers off balance all night, holding Mt. Pleasant to seven total hits on the day.

The game stayed tight through the first five innings of game one. Assumption scored one run in the fourth inning and three in the sixth inning, while holding Mt. Pleasant to two hits.

Pat Canby and Zach Beason each went 1-2 to lead the way offensively. Canby, Chase Lamm, Zac Ebeling and Colby Potts each drew a walk in the loss.

Jordan Magnani got the start and pitched three innings, giving up one hit and no walks, while striking out two batters.

Bryce Anderson picked up the loss, throwing two innings and giving up three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Riley McQuiggin pitched one inning and gave up one earned run on two hits and one walk, while striking out one.

The Panthers had five hits in the second game. Ebeling went 2-2, Canby was 2-3 with a double and Beason went 1-3.

Assumption scored one run in the second inning, two in the third and one more in the fifth.

Potts took the loss, throwing one and two-thirds innings and giving up one earned runs on two hits and no walks, while striking out one.

Beason threw two and one-third innings and gave up one earned run on three hits and one walk, while striking out one. Dalton Shull threw two innings, giving up two earned run on three hits and one walk.

The Panthers fell to 0-2 to begin the season. They will continue their season tonight (Wednesday) at Iowa City Regina, in a game beginning at 7:30 p.m.
