Mt. Pleasant boys golf at Moravia, Fairfield tourneys

FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Pleasant boys’ golf team has been busy lately, traveling around the state for different tournaments. The Panthers finished seventh in the Mohawk Invite in Moravia on Thursday, April 26, shooting a 343. They placed fourth in the Fairfield invite on Saturday, April 28, shooting a 352.

Trace White and Jake Moffett co-led the team with 82 apiece on Thursday, which put them in a tie for 10th place. White shot a 40 on the front nine and a 42 on the back nine, and Moffett went 38 on the front nine and 44 on the back nine.

Bailey Shelledy returned to varsity action for the first time this year. He shot a 43 on both the front and back nine, finishing the tournament at 84 for 14th place. Brevin Wilson shot 47 and 46 to finish at 93 for 21st place. Rhett Zeglen went 46 and 49 to score a 23rd-place 95.

Moffett led the way on Saturday in Fairfield, shooting an 87. He scored 42 on the front nine and 45 on the back nine.

Trace White and Brevin Wilson each shot an 88. White went 47 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine, and Wilson finished 45 on the front nine and 43 on the back nine.

Shelledy shot a 46 on the front nine and a 43 on the back nine to finish at 89. Austin Buckert shot a 57 and a 47 to close the day out at 104, and Evan Folker shot a 59 and a 56 to shoot 115.

The boys’ golf team will be back in conference play on Tuesday, May 1, when they hit the road to take on Keokuk at 4 p.m.
