Led by medalist Kiley Miller, the Mt. Pleasant boys’ golf team came up with a 162-181, Southeast Conference win over Keokuk at Mt. Pleasant Golf and Country Club on Tuesday night.

The victory moves Mt. Pleasant to 1-1 on the season. Keokuk is now 4-2.

Miller shot a 37 on the par-36 course, one stroke ahead of runner-up medalist Sean Longshore, who led Keokuk.

Sam Van De Berg stepped up for the Panthers, carding a 40, and Jordon Phomsouvandara shot a 42. Kyle Kauffman scored a 43 to round out the Panthers’ varsity score.

William Kinney shot a 44 and Jeff Cox scored 48 for Mt. Pleasant.

Other scorers for Keokuk were Blake Miller (41), Bret Wrienden (49) and Damon Wolter (53).

The Mt. Pleasant JV team also defeated Keokuk, 193-277.

Beau Parkevich led the Panthers with a score of 45, and Collin Baccam carded a 47. Trevor Mabeus completed the home course in 49 strokes, followed by Jacob Feldmann (52), Cabin Christner (63) and Jake Scheetz (67).

The Keokuk JV team was led by Ethan Rhea (62) and Brandt O’Shea (63).

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ golf team played at Keokuk on Tuesday, where they finished with a team total of 193.

The Chiefs have just four players on their team, but were missing one for the meet and couldn’t record a score.

“After finding out that the Keokuk team only had three players participating, it seemed like our team lost its edge and our motivation seemed lacking,” Coach Jim Kelly said.

Mt. Pleasant was led by co-medalists Courtney Mabeus and Brianne Holtkamp, each of whom shot a 46.

Emily Cox was right behind them with a 47.

“I thought we got very good play from our two senior co-medalists, Courtney Mabeus and Brianne Holtkamp. Emily Cox continues to improve and become more consistent with her play, which is good to see,” Kelly said.

Haley Booton and Elle Schleisman each scored 54, and Hailey Spence carded a 65.

Keokuk was led by Kelsey Rose with a 51. Madalyn Whitaker scored 55 and Joley Seitz shot a 61.

The Panther girls play again Monday, when they host Washington at 4 p.m.

The Mt. Pleasant boys’ team will see the Chiefs again at its next meet, this time on the road. The Panthers play in Keokuk on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
