BURLINGTON — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ soccer team fell to Burlington on Tuesday night in a non-conference game against Notre Dame. The Panthers couldn’t contain a stacked Nike team, falling 6-1.

Despite some early pressure from the Panthers, it was Notre Dame that got onto the scoreboard first. The Nikes scored the first two goals of the game to take a 2-0 lead by halftime.

Notre Dame tacked on two goals to make it 4-0 early in the second half, but Mt. Pleasant was able to score on a Notre Dame error later in the period. Notre Dame closed the game out with two more goals to take the five-goal win.

Ayden Ross made 20 saves in the varsity match. The junior varsity Panthers fell 3-0.

Mt. Pleasant fell to 7-4 overall with the loss. The Panthers currently sit at 5-2 in the Southeast Conference.

The Panthers can lock up at least a portion of the conference championship with a win at Washington on Thursday, May 10, in a game beginning at 4:30 p.m.

If Mt. Pleasant wins, they will at least be tied for the title. Fairfield and Keokuk will play on Monday, May 14, with the winner staying at just two losses. Both teams will have one more game in the conference, with Keokuk hosting Ft. Madison on Tuesday, May 15, and Fairfield traveling to Washington on Thursday, May 17. If Mt. Pleasant wins on Thursday and both Fairfield and Keokuk lose one more match, the Panthers will stand alone atop the SEC.
