Mt. Pleasant girls’ track wins in West Burlington

WEST BURLINGTON — All four of the Henry County girls’ track and field teams were in West Burlington on Tuesday night. Mt. Pleasant came away with a win in Class A, scoring 167 points. New London was second in Class B with 112 points. Winfield-Mt. Union placed fifth in Class B with 69 points and WACO was sixth in Class B with 57 points.

Mt. Pleasant dominated Class A with eight wins, including two events where the Panthers went one-two.

Taylor Murray won the 800-meter run in 2:33.02, and fellow Panther Maggie Jennings placed second in 2:40.09. The Panthers also took the top two spots in the shot put, with Lexie Magnani winning on a throw of 34-03.50, and Grace Bittle placing second with a 33-02.

Serenity Keonmanivong edged out a win in the 100-meter hurdles, taking the top spot in 17.31 seconds. Maggie Cristoforo won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.21.

Four Panther relay teams took home the gold. The 4X800 team of Jennings, Abby Ryon, Cristoforo and Murray won in 10:18.71. The sprint medley team of Dani Broeker, Kalynn Batey, Karsyn Lamm and Avery Sutter took first in 2:02.21. The Distance Medley team of Lyndi Vantiger, Batey, Kendall Dascher and Delaney McDowell won in 4:55.18, and the shuttle hurdle team of Maddie Williamson, Lamm, Batey and Keomanivong took the top spot in 1:13.24.

New London had three wins on the day. Jenna Hummell took the 100-meter dash in 13.79 seconds. Lexi Brown won the 1500-meter run in 5:27.86, and Carson McSorley won the 400-meter hurdles in 1:10.16.

W-MU picked up three wins as well. Cecelia Hemsworth took gold in the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:40.16. Kyndal Townsley won the 100-meter hurdles in 18.09 seconds, and the shuttle hurdle team of Kayla Edwards, Jami Wilkerson, Ali Cockerham and Townsley took first in 1:17.76.
