Mt. Pleasant, New London girls run at Cornell College

MT. VERNON — Two Henry County schools were present at the Demon Indoors on Thursday night in Mt. Vernon. Mt. Pleasant and New London were both in action and each school had a handful of top-25 finishes.

The best result of the day went to New London’s Carson McSorley. She finished second in the 400-meter dash, crossing the tape in 1:01.65. Mt. Pleasant had two runners in the top 15 in that event, with Avery Sutter finishing ninth, in 1:08.54, and Karsyn Lamm placing 15th, in 1:10.10.

Mt. Pleasant’s 4X800 team had a third-place finish. The squad of Maggie Jennings, Maggie Cristoforo, Abby Ryon and Taylor Murray finished in 10:23.29. Another Panther team, the squad of Kelsey Notestein, Cristina Carthey, Chloe Garner and Kendall Dascher, placed 11th in the event, finishing in 10:50.30.

Mt. Pleasant’s distance medley team of Lyndi Vantiger, Kalynn Batey, Cristoforo and Ryon finished seventh. The Panthers finished the relay in 4:46.27.

Lexie Magnani picked up another seventh-place finish for Mt. Pleasant in the shot put competition. Magnani threw a 35-02. New London’s Addie Pry finished just outside of the top 20, with a 21st-place 31-00.

New London’s 4X400 team placed eighth. The team of Savannah Sutherland, Kara Krieger, Peyton Jackson and McSorley crossed the tape in 4:33.09. Mt. Pleasant’s team of Carthey, Murray, Delaney McDowell and Jennings finished 12th, in 4:37.60.

New London’s Jenna Hummell picked up a top-10 finish in the 60-meter dash with a 10th-place time of 8.77 seconds. She qualified for the final in 12th, with a time of 8.48.

Hummell had two top-15 finishes on the day individually. She also performed well in the 200-meter dash, running the race in 29.16 seconds for 13th.

Lexi Brown had a top-15 finish as well for New London. She ran the 1500-meter run in 5:38.10, which was good enough for 13th place.

Mt. Pleasant had two top-25 finishes in the 60-meter hurdles. Serenity Keomanivong finished 15th, in 10.88 seconds, and Lamm placed 25th, in 11.33 seconds.

The Demon Indoors on the boys’ side will be held today (Friday) at 4 p.m. Like the girls’ relays, they will be held at Cornell College in Mt. Vernon. The Mt. Pleasant boys will take part in today’s action.
