Mt. Pleasant XC team runs at North Linn

TROY MILLS — The Mt. Pleasant cross-country teams ran at the North Linn Invitational at Troy Mills on Saturday. The Panther boys finished fifth out of 21 teams with 134 points and the girls placed fifth out of 17 teams with 198 points.

Cody Mertens finished second individually with a time of 16:42. The Panther junior placed second to only defending Class 3A champion Jeremy Fopma of Marion, who won in 15:58.

Kyle Vanderham placed sixth to give the Panthers two top-10 finishers. Vanderham crossed the line in 17:10. Alec Gardner had a nice race as well, finishing 28th overall in 17:58.

Dalton Moyle placed 39th individually in 18:18. Drake Snavely was 59th in 18:42. Dakota Triska placed 90th in 19:26, and Joey Holtkamp was 97th in 19:42.

Abby Ryon finished fourth in the girls’ race, in 20:09. Taylor Murray gave the Panthers two top-20 finishers with a time of 21:05.

Kendall Dascher and Delaney McDowell were 55th and 57th respectively. Dascher crossed the line in 22:33, and McDowell was close behind her at 22:36. Claire Holtkamp placed 65th in 22:51, and Liz Perry placed 72nd in 23:06.

The Panthers will now turn their attention towards the conference championships in Ft. Madison. The Southeast Conference titles will be on the line on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 4:30 p.m.
