The board has varying opinions on whom the recently renovated complex should be named after. The board is still looking for suggestions from the community, but says a decision will be made by the start of the new school year.

NEW LONDON — The New London Athletic Complex will remain the Tiger Athletic Complex for the time being as the school board weighs options and gets feedback from the community.

At the board of directors meeting on Aug. 7, the board tabled their discussion of what to call the athletic complex, which will be revealed at the start of this coming school year.

Superintendent Chad Wahls favored the idea of allowing it to be named in a “Hall of Fame” fashion, creating a continuation of pride by nominating the best and the brightest.

Board president Lindsay Porter said she wants to make sure they honor the community in the name they choose. “It’s hard to please everyone,” she said.

Jesse Howard, board member, wanted to remember the alumni from New London who have gone on to do amazing things. “There are people who contributed to the community. That hits more than just athletics. I want to talk about recognizing academic achievements.”

Howard also brought up the idea of naming the complex after the voters, celebrating the day they won 88 percent approval to build the complex in the first place.

There is expected to be a 2 by 10 foot sign with the name of the field between the top of the windows and the roof line of the press box. Their next regularly scheduled meeting will be Monday, Aug. 21, at 6 p.m.
