New London golf downs L&M

NEW LONDON — Hagin Gillis and Jorgi Krieger were medalists as the New London boys’ and girls’ golf teams claimed wins over Louisa-Muscatine in a makeup home dual on Monday.

The meet, which was originally scheduled for Friday, started at 4 p.m. yesterday and ended in another pair of victories for the Tiger golfers.

The boys’ team won by a score of 166-201, and the girls’ claimed a 196-233 decision.

Gillis shot a 38 to lead the New London boys, and teammate Tristan Kadel was right behind him with a score of 39.

Kyle Hill carded a 44, and Cody Bartels scored 45 for the team total.

Cole Helmerson shot a 46 and Jayden Flowers a 47 for the Tiger varsity team.

All six New London golfers shot a lower score than L&M’s leaders, Logan Osborn and Stephen Kruse, each of whom scored 48.

Brandon Bieri (51) and Logan Wheeler (54) also scored for the Falcons.

On the girls’ side, Krieger shot a 46 to lead the Tigers. Emmy Pry finished with a 48 and Morgan Oliver carded a 49. Paetyn Prottsman scored 53 to round out the team score.

Breanna Stevens also played for the New London varsity team, shooting a 55.

Jessica Dusek led L&M with a 52 and Hattie Spies scored 53. Three Falcons shot a 64.

Both New London teams are now 2-0 in duals on the season. They are scheduled to golf again Friday when they travel to play against Holy Trinity. It will be their first road competition.
