New London sweeps in Danville tournament

DANVILLE — New London volleyball might have lost its core group to graduation, but the Tigers proved on Saturday that the program is in good hands. New London went 4-0 in the Danville tournament, going 8-1 in total sets to start off the year on the right foot.

New London swept Columbus Community, Louisa-Muscatine and Pekin, and took down the hosting Bears 2-1.

The Tigers had a dominant win over Columbus. In that game, New London took the first set 21-13 and the second set 21-11. Kaylor Schulte led the way with seven kills, and both Addie Pry and Paris Wilka had three. Kristen Rohdy, who has taken over as the setter, finished that game with 12 assists.

The Tigers grinded out a sweep of L&M. New London took set one 21-16 and set two 22-20. Schulte led the way with seven kills, and Addie Pry added four. Rohdy led the way with 15 assists, and Chloe Coleman had 14 digs.

New London really had to battle against Danville. After taking the first game 21-13, the Bears came out ready in set two, taking it 22-20 to force a third game. New London buckled down to take the third set 15-8.

Schulte and Pry each had 11 kills in the Danville win. Coleman finished with 58 digs and Rohdy had 25 assists.

The Tigers made it a 4-0 day with the sweep of Pekin. New London breezed through that match, winning 21-13 and 21-10. Pry led the way with eight kills. Coleman had 18 digs and Rohdy had 13 assists.

New London will travel to Central Lee for their next matchup. They’ll take on the Hawks on Thursday, Aug. 30, their final match of the month.
