New London volleyball sweeps Van Buren

NEW LONDON — The sixth-ranked New London volleyball team continued to cruise through the early parts of the season on Tuesday, picking up a SEISC South Division win over Van Buren in three sets.

The Tigers swept Van Buren 25-17, 25-17 and 25-15 to move to 6-0 in the conference. They have only lost one set over their first six games.

New London was led offensively by Breanna Mettler, who had 13 kills in 41 attack attempts. She also had one block attempt on the day. Ashley Birdsell had a big day as well, with eight kills and five total blocks.

Kaylor Schulte and Addie Pry each finished with five kills in the win. Schulte added three blocks. Savannah Sutherland ad two kills and led the team in assists, with 29.

Carson McSorley had 23 digs to lead the team defensively. Camryn Blint had 15 digs. Sutherland and Kristen Rohdy had nine digs apiece.

New London had another good day serving, going 70-74 with 10 aces. McSorley went 26-28 with four aces to lead the way.

Sutherland was 19-19 serving with three aces. Birdsell, Blint and Mettler each had one ace in the win.

The Tigers will be at WACO tonight (Thursday) in a Henry County showdown. the Warriors are sitting at 3-5 on the season. That game will begin at 7:30 p.m.
