DANVILLE — Tiger volleyball showed the rest of Southeast Iowa it was ready to go on Saturday. New London went 4-0 to win the Danville tournament, sweeping three games and only getting taken to three sets by Ft. Madison, the 10th ranked team in Class 3A.

The Tigers made quick work of hosting Danville, winning 21-15 and 21-8. Kaylor Schulte had six kills. Breanna Mettler had five kills and Ashley Birdsell had four. Camryn Blint led the defense with six digs.

New London dropped the first set against Ft. Madison 21-16, but the Tigers bounced right back with a 21-14 win in set two. The Tigers smothered the Bloodhounds 15-6 in game three and the tournament was theirs to lose.

Mettler had five kills against Ft. Madison. Schulte finished with three. Carson McSorley had 16 digs in the win. The Tigers also had an impressive game serving the ball, going 51-52 with seven aces. Savannah Sutherland had three aces all on her own.

New London had no problem with Louisa-Muscatine or Pekin. The Tigers topped L&M 21-12 in both games thanks in part to four Mettler kills and 15 digs from McSorley.

The Tigers dropped the Panthers 21-16 and 21-12. Mettler had three kills to lead the team, and had a dominant outing on the serve, going 10-10 with seven aces. McSorley had 15 more digs and added three aces on her own, going 9-9 on the serve.

The Tigers (4-0) begin Southeast Super Conference play Thursday. They’ll take on Notre Dame in Burlington at 7:30 p.m.
