New officers installed for Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood Monday

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, March 26, at the Ashford Clubhouse with Karen Wenstrand, Becky Kauffman, Chris McCormick, Mary Beth Young and Jan Lange serving as co-hostesses. President Lana Moeller presided at the 1 p.m. business meeting with 30 members present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared the scripture; recording secretary Jan Lange read the minutes from the previous meeting; treasurer Deb Mascarenas gave the financial report; Jean Thomson shared the correspondence.

Ways & Means chairman Kathy Schimmelpfennig shared items for sale and reported that she had sent in marketplace items for the Iowa State Convention. B&B chairman Joyce Dennison asked for assistance for a lunch on April 7, and a lunch, dinner and breakfast on June 7 and 8.

Membership co-chairman Sheila Allender shared that the committee will be hosting a Pinterest/Interest workshop on making freezer meals. The date will be announced soon. Co-chairmen Betty Lowe and Karen Wenstand shared that a Celebrate Spring Coffee will be held at Sunnybrook Assisted Living on Wednesday, April 25, from 2 to 4 p.m.

Treasurer Deb Mascarenas gave the second reading of the 2018-2019 budget, which was passed. Discussion was held concerning the planting and maintaining of the flower urns in front of Old Main and the flower box between Pioneer Hall and Old Main. Joyce Dennison, Karen Brimhall and Sheila Allender were named to serve on the committee.

Henry County Sesquicentennial committee member Brimhall reported a successful “tip night” fundraiser at the Pizza Ranch and shared that another “tip night” is scheduled for Wednesday, April 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Jerry’s Restaurant. Janet Roederer, Lynn Graf and Deb Mascarenas will work the fundraiser and members are encouraged to bring family and friends out to dinner that evening.

The sesquicentennial tour training is continuing. The dates are Monday, April 9, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m.; Monday, May 15, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m.

Officers for the 2018 to 2019 year were present. They are as follows: President Lana Moeller, Vice President Connie Geiser, recording secretary Jan Lange, treasurer Deb Mascarenas, corresponding secretary Jean Thomson, chaplain Lea McCormick and guard Chris McCormick. Delegate and alternate delegates to Iowa State Convention are Thomson and Mascarenas. Garrels, past president of the International Chapter, installed the officers for the coming year.

Dennison thanked members for their support of the Iowa Wesleyan University Retro Radiothon and especially those who contributed to the P.E.O. chapter challenge. She also read a note from Sara Titus thanking everyone for their generous gifts of time and money for the university, proving that we are indeed “stronger together.”

The next meeting will be Monday, April 23, at 1 p.m. at the home of Brenda McCabe. Co-hostesses will be Sheila Allender and Janet Roederer. Judy Miller will present the program “Celeberating! Fragrance in the Air.”
