Olds Lions help at summer activities

Olds Lions traveled to Washington to Central Park of Thursday evening June 6. They were invited by the Washington Lions to join them in fundraising efforts prior to the Washington Band’s concert in the park.

The band performs each Thursday night at 8 p.m. from June through August.

The Olds Club sold homemade ice cream and cookies. Another night of homemade ice cream and cookies have been scheduled for July 11 again in the Washington Central Park from 6:30 to 8 p.m., between the Thursday night’s Farmers’ Market and the band concert.

On Tuesday, June 11, members and guests met at the Olds United Church of Christ to car pool to Iowa City and the Ronald McDonald House.

Ten pounds of pull tabs were donated to the house along with numerous food, paper and cleaning items for the kitchens, suites and rooms of the house.

The house is maintained as a place for families of patients (age 21 or younger) that are receiving treatment at the University of Iowa Hospitals. The house receives no federal or tax money for its operation, It is funded strictly on donations. Dinner at Hu Hot followed the tour.

The Olds Lions regular meetings have been suspended until fall. They will resume again on Tuesday, Sept. 10, with a “picnic in the park” in the City Park. Hot dogs, chips and beverages will be furnished.

Anyone interested in becoming a Lion is welcome to attend. Hot dogs will be served at 6:30 p.m. followed by a brief business meeting to swear in the 2013-2014 officers.

Persons interested in becoming Lions are welcome to attend regular meetings any time during the year or may contact any Lions member for more information.
