One driver was taken to Henry County Health Center following a three-vehicle accident on Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2018.

The accident happened at approximately 10:25 a.m., at the intersection of E. Washington and S. Walnut streets, in Mt. Pleasant. According to police reports, a white 2016 Ford truck, owned and operated by Carl Loyd, of New London, was driving east on Washington Street, when he failed to stop at the red light. Loyd entered the intersection striking a SUV.

The silver 2017 Highlander SUV was owned and operated by Yenchay Tanckhpanya, of Mt. Pleasant. Tanckhpanya, who was driving north on Walnut Street, had a green light and entered the intersection to make a left turn to the west. Tanckhpanya was struck by Loyd.

After striking the SUV, the white Ford continued east into the westbound lane, striking a 2017 Chevy Traverse, which had stopped at the red light.

The Chevy was owned and operated by James DePriest, of Mt. Pleasant. He had been stopped at the red light, facing west on Washington Street. The white Ford truck struck the silver Toyota and continued forward, sliding into the front end of the black Chevy.

All air bags deployed in the Toyota Highlander. Tanckhpanya suffered injuries and was transported to HCHC.

Estimated damage to the silver Toyota was $15,000. Damages to the white Ford were estimated at $5,000; and $2,000 for the black Chevy.

Loyd was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device.
