Original A PEO looking ahead at fundraising

Twenty-eight members of Original A PEO met on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the memory rooms at Iowa Wesleyan University at 7 p.m.

Special guest was Iowa State Organizer Bev Templeton, who visited with officers before the meeting and sharing ideas and goals the group can work on. Mindy Creager was welcomed as a new member to the group.

President Pat Bensmiller thanked everyone who had helped at the fundraiser at Pizza Hut. PEO will possibly hosting another fundraiser in February. Bensmiller announced that PEO chapters will be selling sesquicentennial shirts to raise funds to purchase a plaque for IW designating the founding of PEO.

The Ways and Means Committee announced that Younker coupon booklets will be available at the next meeting for the event in November at the store. Information about Sees Candies will be provided in October.

The Henry County PEO Fall Dinner will be on Nov. 16, at IW Social Hall with NZ hosting. Registration begins at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 6 p.m.

IW’s Purple and White Ball will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21. That day, there also will be a PEO visit day at Cottey College in Nevada, Mo. Founded in 1884 with the goal of providing a quality education to girls, PEO women have been showing their support to the college for 90 years.

At the start of the new year, a training class will be held for anyone interested in giving tours of the PEO memory rooms, Carol Nemitz said.

Deb Sinclair shared her experience of staying at a PEO Bed and Breakfast in Cape Cod, Mass. She encouraged members to consider going to one.

The next meeting will be Wednesday, Oct. 4, at the Henry County Health Center HEC at 7 p.m. The program will be give on Department of Homeland Security Stop the Bleed Campaign. Michelle Tansey-Meyer and Lacey Harlan-Ralls will be speaking.
