P.E.O. plans to tour Mt. Pleasant

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, April 23, in the home of Brenda McCabe. Sheila Allender, Lana Moeller and Janet Roederer served as co-hostesses.

Before the business meeting, the officers held a memorial service for Peg Swenson, who passed away on April 8. President, Lana Moeller, presided over the meeting with 25 members and one guest, Dorothy Miller from Chapter EW in Tama, present.

Chaplain Lea McCormick shared the scripture, recording secretary Jan Lange read the minutes from the pervious meeting and treasurer, Deb Mascarenas gave the financial report.

Jean Thomson shared the correspondence that included a notice from the Iowa State Chapter about the end of the year reports and a letter from the Chapter C in Fairfield about the Iowa Room at the international convention in September of 2019.

Vice president, Connie Geiser, gave out the yearbooks for 2018-2019. She also announced that the May 21 meeting will be a tour of the Harlan-Lincoln Museum led by Anna Villareal, entitled, “A famous family and their home.”

The business meeting will follow the tour in the memory rooms at Old Main.

Co-hostesses for the meeting will be Lea Bradley, Joy Conwell, Connie Geiser, Jo Sankey and Mary Shy. She also announced that the June 11 meeting will be a summer luncheon at 12 p.m. at the Ashford Clubhouse with the business meeting to follow.

A list was passed for members to sign up to bring a salad or a dessert. Hostess and co-hostesses for the meeting will be Jan Lange, Amy Pullis, Maison Pullis, Kris Emerson, Carole Lauger, Vicky Bergstrom, Ouida Naylor and Mary Rockwell.

It was announced that the Partner in Peace recipient, Maria Candia Romano, will be graduating form Georgetown University this spring. Karen Wenstrand will send a card and gift.

“The Sisterhood” membership co-chairman announced that May 25 is Vicky Bergstrom’s 96th birthday. Vicky’s family has invited the chapter to an open house in her honor from 1-3 p.m. at SunnyBrook Assisted Living on her birthday.

Way and Means chairman, Kathy Schimmelpfennig shared items for sale. B & B chairman, Joyce Dennison announced that she will need assistance for meals from June 7-8. It was reported that the auditing committee of Marcia Kenner and Sheila Allender found the treasurer’s books in order.

Joyce Dennison announced that she, Sheila Allender and Karen Brimhall would be planting the P.E.O. flower bed and urns in front of Old Main on the Iowa Wesleyan University campus.

Jean Thomson read the revision of amendments to be presented at the Iowa State Convention.

Henry County Sesquicentennial committee member, Karen Brimhall reported a successful tip night fundraiser at Jerry’s Restaurant on April 11. She thanked Lynn Graf, Janet Roederer and Deb Mascarenas for volunteering as waitresses.

The bronze plaque for in front of Old Main has been ordered and soon the banners for the inner and outer boundaries of the Iowa Wesleyan University campus and the banners along Grand Ave. and Hwy. 34 will be ordered. The final two tour training dates are Monday, May 15 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 19, at 1 p.m.
