P.E.O. Sisterhood holding fundraising event Tuesday

Aug 22, 2017

A fundraising event for the 2019 Sesquicentennial Celebration for the Chapter Original A of P.E.O. Sisterhood will be held on Aug. 22. All are invited to Pizza Hut from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. All four chapters of the Henry County P.E.O. will be participating with Deb Sinclair and Pat Bensmiller representing Chapter Original A.

Chapter Original A of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met Aug. 2, at the home of Lillian Curtis. Twenty-eight members and three guests were in attendance. Faye Tippy was welcomed as a new member. Co-hostesses were Batty Baker, Charlene Hinrichs, Virginia Styron and Sue Hoffmeister

President Pat Bensmiller conducted the business meeting. She reported on the recent Heritage Tour of the State Presidents and Organizers to Mt. Pleasant and Iowa Wesleyan University, the birthplace of P.E.O. Janie Lauer, Sally Kinney and Carolyn Brenizer were thanked for their preparation of the Memory Rooms in anticipation of the President and Organizers Heritage Tour.

Vice President Lacey Harlan-Ralls announced that Bev Templeton, State Organizer officer of Iowa State Chapter, will be making an official visit on Sept. 13. Templeton is a 37-year member of Chapter FN of Garner, Iowa. She will meet with the officers before the Chapter meeting of the membership.

Lillian Curtis presented the program “Putting the Pieces Together.” She gave the history of quilting, described styles of quilting, and talked about the tools used for quilting. In the early years quilting was done for utilitarian purposes. Quilting experienced a strong revival during the 1970s due to the American bicentennial. It is considered truly an integral part of American folk art. Curtis shared many of her quilting projects.

The next meeting will be Sept. 13 at the Memory Rooms at 7 p.m.
