Panther bowling places third in SEC

FAIRFIELD — The Mt. Pleasant bowling teams competed at the Southeast Conference tournament in Fairfield on Saturday. Both teams finished in third place with the girls scoring 1,981 and the boys scoring 2,240. Keokuk won both the boys’ and girls’ tournaments, Fairfield finished second in both and Washington finished fourth in both as well.

The girls were led by Emily Shumaker, who had a big night, placing second in SEC with a 367. Shumaker threw a 188 in her first game and a 179 in her second. Keokuk’s Rylee Johnson won the conference with a 410.

Kelsey Hummel placed seventh, throwing a 154 and a 145 to finish at 299. The top seven places all went to either Keokuk or Mt. Pleasant bowlers.

Alexis Wohlleber finished 16th with a 259, throwing a 140 in her first game and a 119 in her second. Gillian Anderson rolled a 233 (91, 142) for 18th place. Tylisa Kelley rolled a 216 (113, 103) for 21st place and Rachel Kuckes scored a 209 (103, 106) for 23rd place.

The Panther girls’ Baker games went 115, 124, 113, 130 and 125 for a final score of 607.

The Mt. Pleasant boys were led by Ethan Oilar, who finished 12th. He rolled a 143 and a 171 to score a 314. Brandon Parton was right behind Oilar, bowling a 156 and 150 to score 306. Fairfield’s Shane Morrissey won the individual title with a 444.

Levi Mills and Sam Anderson finished 16th and 17th respectively. Mills rolled a 299 (171, 128) and Anderson was right behind him with a 295 (148, 147). Tristan Dirth placed 20th with a 274 (122, 149) and Mark Steinhoff was 21st with a 271 (122, 149).

Baker games for the Mt. Pleasant boys went 134, 161, 161, 137 and 159 for a final score of 752.
