IOWA CITY — The fourth-ranked Mt. Pleasant boys won their sixth game in a row on Tuesday night. The Panthers finished the season sweep of Iowa City Liberty, topping the Lightning 76-51.

Mt. Pleasant used another big performance from the offense to pick up the road win. The Panthers scored at least 17 points in all four quarters.

Liberty stayed close with Mt. Pleasant for the first eight minutes. The Panthers led 19-16 after the first quarter. A 22-11 second quarter helped the Panthers stretch their lead to 41-27 at halftime.

The Lightning could never recover from the first half. Mt. Pleasant won the third quarter 18-12 and the fourth quarter 17-12 to get out of Iowa City with a 25-point win.

It was once again the Panther backcourt that led the squad in scoring. Brady Sartorius had 26 points, six assists and four steals, and Jordan Magnani had 22 points and six steals.

Colin Mulford had another efficient day, going 4-4 from the field, 2-2 from three-point land and 2-2 from the line for 12 points. Tucker Johnson had nine points and three steals.

Jonathan Ita had two points and six rebounds in the win. Rhett Zeglen and Kieran Kohorst had two points apiece and Maison Ashton finished with one.

The Panthers moved to 9-2 with the win. They’ll put their 4-0 Southeast Conference record on the line on Friday, Jan. 12 when they hit the road to play Fairfield.

The JV team won 61-45. Keegan Kohorsty had 18 points in the win and the duo of Konnor Peterson and Sam Beatty scored 10 points apiece.

The Trojans are 3-1 in the SEC, making Friday night’s game a showdown for first place. A win for Mt. Pleasant would give them a commanding lead on the rest of the field with just three conference games left.
