Panther girls back on the track

The Mt. Pleasant girls’ track and field team opened its season at the Demon Indoor in Iowa City on Monday, where the Panthers were led by Mary Wester’s second-place finish in the shot put.

More than 25 teams competed at the meet, including many of the top 3A and 4A schools, according to Mt. Pleasant Coach Dave Hutchcroft.

There were no team scores awarded.

Wester marked a new personal record in the shot put with a throw of 38-4 3/4 to place second overall.

Kelsi Phipps was a third-place finisher in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.49 seconds, and Leslie Taylor was right behind her with a time of 9.51 seconds to take fourth place. Hannah Becker was seventh in the event with at ime of 9.71 seconds.

Becker also placed in the high jump. She and Grace Lutovsky tied for fifth with a jump of 4-10.

The distance medley team of Taylor, Phipps, Becker and Chloe Haffarnan placed sixth overall with a time of 4:38.8.
