FT. MADISON — The Mt. Pleasant girls’ soccer team saw their undefeated streak come to an end on Monday evening in Ft. Madison. The Bloodhounds topped the Panthers on a breakaway goal by Taylor Shannan with just two minutes to go.

Mt. Pleasant scored first after an almost 30-minute scoreless streak started the game. The Panthers got on the board with a goal from Mary West. West put MPCHS on top with 12:33 left in the first half, but the lead was short lived.

Shannan scored her first goal of the game with 11:20, assisted by Bloodhound teammate Sarah Bernhardt. The game was tied at 1-1 and that’s where it would stand for the majority of the game.

The Panthers controlled the entire second half, getting chance after chance to break the tie, but Ft. Madison stayed true and kept the game tied until 2:20 remaining in the contest.

Ft. Madison’s Kaeli Huston found Shannan on a through ball, which led to a breakaway. Shannan scored the go-ahead goal and Mt. Pleasant saw their first deficit of the game.

Mt. Pleasant couldn’t respond to the late goal, and the Panthers’ undefeated start to the season was ended.

The Panthers fell to 4-1 on the year and 2-1 in conference play. They’ll take on Holy Trinity on Thursday, April 19 at 4:30 p.m., in their last non-conference game before a home showdown with Washington on Monday, April 23.
